My hair looks really dull. Can anyone recommend a shine-enhancing product or treatment?
- Asked by Female, 56-65
I really like the John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze Clear Shine treatment. You use it a few times a week and it coats your hair with a clear layer of gloss, which makes your hair looks really shiny. It also has a really nice scent.

If your hair is truely dull and has no shine at all and it is related to overprocessing or constantly dying your hair, you'll be hard pressed to find a store bought product that works. I only say this because I had the same experience. The cheapo products at the drugstore that claim to make your hair shine tend to have ingredients in it that not only don't make your hair any shinier, but can damage it further in the long run. The only thing I can suggest (highly) is getting a clear gloss treatment at a salon. My hairdresser did this to my hair for free because it was so in need of shine and protein and it worked AMAZING. It truely made my hair shinier....suggest looking into it.

Apple cider vinegar. Trust me; it works. Simply shampoo hair as usual, when hair is rinsed, blot out excess water. Then, work apple cider vinegar through your hair until hair is fully saturated. Let sit for about 3 minutes, then rinse. Condition if needed.

I recommend Moroccan oil. It smooths the hair without weighing it down, and it leaves behind beatiful shine

I swear by MoroccanOil, their products can be found at most hair salons or boutiques for professional hair products. They aren't cheap, but they last for a very long time since you only need a tiny bit of the product at a time.

As a hairstylist, I would recommend that you ask your stylist if s/he thinks your hair needs more protein, moisture, or both. If it's protein you need, try Paul Mitchell's Awapuhi Wild Ginger Kera-Triplex treatment. If it's moisture your hair lacks, an in-salon deep conditioning treatment will work wonders.
Also, is your hair chemically-treated? If you get highlights, your hair is likely protein-depleted and would benefit from the protein treatment as well as a demi-permanent glaze to deepen your color slightly, thus making it more light-reflective. If you use permanent color, it could be dryness and protein depletion as well as color buildup. Talk with your stylist about what s/he recommends for you as far as color.
In any case, a rich moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as Paul Mitchell Lavender Mint, a shine serum such as Paul Mitchell Super Skinny, and a heat-protective spray for thermal styling such as Paul Mitchell's Heat Seal will be great for your hair. Best of luck!

I bought WEN from QVC. It a shampoo that does not lather or fade your hair color. It felt weird at first but my hair is fluffy. I was hooked after the first time. It says it takes 16 pumps but it only takes 4 for me. I bought a kit with the conditioning cleaner, and gel, and spray. It was 51.00 and my husand and I both use it and we area about 1/3 through. I have thick short hair.

You can use the olive oil + egg mixture and you'll leave it for thirty minutes...but I can't guarantee that it'll work.
John Frieda & Pantene's shining products work! :)

Ask your salon if they can get you some Moroccan Oil. It's the best!

One of the best things to try is a clarifying shampoo, like Neutrogena, once a week, to remove buildup. I also always do a final rinse of cold water before I get out of the shower. You can also try a vinegar rinse, after you shampoo, as it will act as a clarifier as well.

wet your hair, mix shampoo and an egg white (yup egg white) work it into your hair - wait 10 -15 minuets and then rinse in luke warm water (NOT HOT you don't want scrambled eggs!) then shampoo and condition. - It's a great low cost way to treat your hair! Enjoy!

Use any leave in hair conditioner or oil in overnight then wash and condition as usual. Some of the oils i've used are carrot&vit e, Avon desert palm, argan , sesame.
I've also used Avon hair masks - Greek Seas and Himalya Goji Berry.
After shampoo and conditioning i use argan oil; makes hair soft, shiny and manageable followed by IC hair polish.

I swear by Morrocan oil! I use a dime sized amount on damp hair then style as usual and my hair shines! This is the only product needed to add shine and vitality to your hair.

Try an avocado hair mask twice or three times a week, you leave it on for 20 - 30 minutes and wash it out with your regular shampoo and always avoid the sun, makes dry hair so much worse. It´ll take a couple of weeks to show results but it is worth it.
