Has anyone tried the Brazilian Blowout? Was it worth the money?
- Asked by Female, 36-45, Denver, Artist / Musician / Writer
I recommend you DON'T do it. Tony and Guy recently banned it because the process involves very harmful toxins.

For the right hair type, the Keratin/Brazilian smoothing treatment is a great option. You should try to find a salon that uses a formaldahyde free product. It is the fumes from the formaldahyde that are toxic, not the keratin protien itself. Also find a salon that has been doing this type of treatment for a good amount of time, so they have experience providing this type of service.

I have done it multiple times, and LOVE it. If you smell any fumes, your stylist is using way too much. When I had it done, the fumes did not bother me, but I wore a mask just to be safe. A lot of salons have banned it due to the high formaldehyde content. Some brands claim to have lower doses, but I have read that they are not as effective. Try a keratin treatment instead if the formaldehyde treatments. Keratin treatments infuse your hair with Keratin which gives it the same healthy and shiny hair. It will not keep it as straight.

My friend recently got one. It didn't last long and before she knew it, her hair was wavy again. I wouldn't suggest it because many harmful toxins are involved in the process. Hope this helps!
